A LOOK AT THE DEEP FAMILY HISTORY BEHIND THE SUCCESS OF PINE PEAKS WEDDING & EVENT CENTER / BY JENNIFER KRANZ
Growing up on the Peterson homestead outside Cross Lake, Dave Peterson had no idea that the very majestic pine tree groves that he grew up playing in would one day become Pine Peaks Wedding & Event Center, one of Minnesota’s premier wedding venues. Dave and his wife Dr. Julie Nyland have transformed the homestead in the lake country, first owned by Dave’s great-great grandparents, into a newly engaged couple’s wedding dreams.
The property was first owned in 1902 by Peter and Ella Peterson, Dave’s great-great grandparents, who settled in the wilderness near Cross Lake to open a hotel for loggers. Since then the land has been passed down through three generations of Peterson’s and grown from the original hotel to a dairy farm, a hobby farm that Dave grew up on, and now Pine Peaks Wedding & Event Center.
In 2005 Dave purchased the Peterson Homestead from his eight siblings and began building up the property. Dave was motivated by the memory of his
parents that passed away in a house fire on the property in 1986. What better way to honor the memory of his parents than to create a place where so many wonderful memories could continue to be made?
Appropriately named after the towering pine trees dotting the land, Pine Peaks Wedding & Event Center hosted it’s first wedding, Dave’s daughter Molly’s wedding, in 2011. From there Dave and Julie decided to open the property up as a part time wedding venue and haven’t looked back since. The couple obtained the proper licensure and permits and hit the ground running. They average 48 to 49 weddings a year and have been honored multiple times by top wedding outlets as a top wedding venue. As Dave says, “This is our hobby gone wild!”
Dave and Julie believe that every wedding is special, and each one is treated that way. Their passion, attention to detail and creativity make every wedding unique. Dave and Julie offer superior customer service and truly cater to each Pine Peaks Wedding & Event
