Bonnie chose Bloom Designs to recreate the ideas from Bonnie’s Pinterest board and bring the vision of her wedding to life. Incorporating the color palette of dusty rose, gold, cream and navy, the floral designs of Bonnie’s wedding were, as Bonnie describes, “everything soft, flowy, and delicate!” Bonnie gave the florist her rosary from Fatima, Portugal, to incorporate into the bouquet as a memento of Bonnie and Gabe’s planned travels for their honeymoon there after the wedding.
Saturday, June 1st, 2019 finally arrived, and the weather obliged with a perfect, spring, Minnesota day. The night before, the wedding party convened at St. Francis Catholic Church in Brainerd, MN, to rehearse for the event. After the rehearsal, everyone gathered on the same back porch where Gabe proposed to visit and celebrate Bonnie and Gabe’s last day as a solo.
Bonnie and her bridesmaids rose early to prepare themselves for the day. The women wore floor-length muted rosy hue gowns with long sleeves. The men in the wedding party adorned themselves in navy blue suits. Bonnie shared a first look with her father before seeing Gabe. “My first look with my dad caught me really off guard. I had been with the girls the entire morning, and my dad coming in really made it all sink in.”
Before 400 people and a wedding party consisting of all of Gabe’s nine siblings, Bonnie’s two sisters, nieces, nephews and friends, the couple shared their vows and love for one another. After the ceremony, the guests traveled to the NP Event Center in Brainerd, MN, where the warm and welcoming theme continued. While waiting for the reception to begin, the wedding party realized how hungry they were as none of them had eaten much during the day. Gabe dropped a berry down the front of Bonnie’s gown which left a purple stain. Rather than stress, Bonnie and Gabe laughed it off until one of the vendors came to the rescue and saved the day...and the gown. After dinner, dancing commenced with Gabe saving a special dance with his Grandma Bonnie, who would have celebrated her 62nd wedding anniversary with her late-husband, Gabe’s grandpa, on June 1st as well.
Bonnie and Gabriel Smith honeymooned in Portugal, taking a day pilgrimage to Fatima and a day-trip to Duoro Valley visiting boutiques, family-owned vineyards, olive gardens, and almond orchards. Upon their return, the couple resides in Crosby, MN. Bonnie is the daughter of Brad and Jane Holmvig of Crosby, Minnesota. Gabriel is the son of Murray and Shannon Smith of Deerwood, Minnesota.
