“WE WANTED TO SUPPORT LOCAL BUSINESSES, BUT ALSO WANTED A WEDDING THAT WAS CHIC AND CLASSIC. WE GREW UP HERE, THIS IS OUR HOME.”
written by Lori Shoberg
A simple choir trip to New York in her sophomore year of high school turned into the beginning of the rest of Bonnie Grace Holmvig’s life. It was on that trip with the high school’s A Cappella Choir that Bonnie met her groom, Gabriel Murray Smith. Bonnie and Gabriel soon considered themselves a couple, downsizing from a choir to a duet.
After years of dating, Gabe realized he wanted this duet to stay together forever, so he began the process of planning the ultimate proposal. His original intent was to propose at St. Francis Catholic Church in Brainerd, MN, the place of the wedding ceremony. He scouted out the venue several times, attending mass and confession various times over the course of the engagement.
However, Gabe ended up improvising his plan. “I completely ruined Gabe’s plan. I was in a bad mood and simply did not want to go to Brainerd anymore.” Rather than force the issue, Gabe opted for the back patio of his family’s home to ask the important question. Bonnie’s bad mood quickly changed when she saw the ring, and happily said, “Yes!”.
Bonnie’s dream of a winter wedding was thwarted a bit due to her father’s snowplowing business. With the unpredictability of a Minnesota winter and the desire to have the father-of-the- bride be present for the entire day, the couple chose June 1, 2019 as their wedding date. Usually, Minnesotans are fairly certain of no snow in June.
